Thompson Hine partner Heidi Friedman has been appointed chair of the International Association of Defense Counsel’s (IADC) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee for a term of two years. She is a former vice chair of programs and projects for the DEI Committee and currently serves as vice chair and was one of the founders of its Empowerment Collaborative, IADC’s initiative to support and promote the women of IADC. In this new role, Heidi will also be a member of IADC’s strategic planning committee, Corporate Counsel College planning committee, Trial Academy committee and CLE committee. An active IADC member since 2012, Friedman previously served as vice chair of diversity for the Environmental and Energy Law Committee and has held a variety of positions related to meeting planning and membership.
This fall, IADC’s DEI Committee and In-House and Law Firm Management Committee will launch their Diversity Roadmap project, which is designed to help law firms and corporations embrace greater diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in the legal profession. An interactive website will contain practical resources, how-to videos, real-life experiences and best practices used by law firms and corporations of all sizes and types. Heidi is featured in the initial video launching the project.
In her legal practice, Friedman focuses on environmental, health and safety counseling in business, regulatory and legislative matters, environmental and toxic tort litigation, environmental enforcement actions, site remediation, product stewardship and compliance with environmental regulations but Heidi spends a significant amount of time working on issues critical to supporting the advancement of women and other minorities in the legal field both at Thompson Hine and the local, regional and national levels.

Its core purposes are to enhance skills development, promote professionalism and facilitate camaraderie among its members, their clients and the broader civil justice community.
