2020 Professional Conduct CLE Seminar

Cuyahoga County is considering replacing its aging justice center complex, which houses the Cuyahoga County Jail, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and Cleveland Municipal Court. Public trust and confidence were recently shaken by deaths at the jail. Concerns emerged regarding the justice system itself. In evaluating what kind of new facility will best serve the public and the system, the planning group has studied how the current system and facility have provided (or failed to provide) access to justice and examined the services rendered by the jail and courts.

This seminar explores these topics, including the structural forces that have acted as impediments to justice for many parts of the community and the kinds of reforms implemented by justice systems elsewhere that might be viable solutions for some of the problems experienced in this county.

Join us as Jeffrey R. Appelbaum, a Thompson Hine partner, and Karen L. Chinn, founding principal of Chinn Planning, Inc., explore these topics and discuss possible reforms to the justice system that should complement justice center planning.

2.5 hours of professional conduct CLE credit has been approved for Ohio. This session satisfies all professional conduct CLE requirements in Ohio.

This program was given as a live presentation on November 22, 2019.
